We say...

One of the most exciting new electronic instruments for years, we're super-excited to be stocking Atrium, the latest synthesiser from the mind behind the cult classic Mannequins Eurorack modules. It's a stunning-looking five-voice analogue synth with a unique gesture-based interface that makes it highly expressive (as well as sounding sublime). A massive thumbs-up from us!

Manufacturer's description

Atrium is a new instrument where playful gestures meet dynamic systems. Inspired by a decade of modular explorations through their Mannequins eurorack line, Whimsical Raps has rethought how to reach into polyphony in pentagonal form. Five voices of analogue synthesis with multiple timbral modes, flexible & improvisatory polytimbral modulation, three linked filters, two delays, feedback, and on-the-fly gesture recording come together to inspire endlessly-renewing ways to compose, express, and play.

Long-throw faders, mechanical keyswitches, satisfyingly-chunky knobs, and capacitive multi-touch plates all combine to help the player explore & expand sweet spots of notes, chords, synthesis parameters, cycling lowpass/gates, resonant feedback loops, and phased channels of limitless modulation mapping. No screens, just beautiful warm light which guides & responds to the player's movements.

MIDI in & out (TRS and/or USB), 3x CV inputs, and computer connectivity all help Atrium fit seamlessly into different contexts and existing setups. Atrium's timing parameters (eg. clock, LFO, envelopes, and delay) all support many timescales, from far-reaching & sprawling experimentation to musically-clocked & locked songwriting and performance.

Modulation in Atrium is fast, tactile & open-ended, without all the cables. Modular-inspired flexibility allows anything-to-anything mapping, including feedback & self-modulation. Five gesture recorders offer hand-played streams of modulation, which can each run asynchronously, clock-synced, or driven by the timing of another gesture. For moments of quick change, Atrium's state can be instantly recalled through on-board patch storage.

Atrium is deeply learnable, with approachability and flexibility at its core. In the same hands, it can be a snarling formant monosynth, an ocean of ringing FM tones, a greenhouse of lush pads, a hydra of cybernetic feedback, a cascade of polyrhythms. Down-tempo, up-tempo, no-tempo, all-tempo: Atrium always delights in being something & somewhere new.
